Roadmap to Success: A Path to Fulfilling Your Goals

is a pamphlet developed by the YEA ME advisory council and includes important benchmarks and activities to prepare youth for adult life. The pamphlet is 5 1/2 " by 17" and folds lengthwise.  The text of the pamphlet is contained in the right column.

Roadmap to Success: A Path to Fulfilling Your Goals

  • Help out around the house with chores & cooking.
  • Know your disability or special need, and advocate for yourself in getting supports or accommodations met.
  • Meet with your guidance counselor to plan your high school course of study.
  • Play an active role in your transition planning meetings PET, 504, etc.).
  • Get a work permit.
  • Volunteer or get a part-time job.
  • Look into driver's education class.
  • Discuss your goals for the future with your family and teacher.
  • continue to work with your parents and teachers to make sure your transition plan is working.
  • Begin to take responsibility for your health care. Make your own appointments and learn about your medications.
  • Enroll in vocational education programs.
  • Apply for Vocational Rehabilitation services. Explore college options. Attend a college fair.
  • Become involved in community activities (YMCA, clubs, etc).
  • Investigate support services available to you after high school.
  • At 18 you're an adult. Know your Rights & Responsibilities (voting, draft, etc.).
