Welcome to the Maine Autism Spectrum Resource Center!
The Maine Autism Spectrum Resource Center (Maine ASRC) site was developed by an interdisciplinary team led by Lucille Zeph, Ed.D., Director, University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies (CCIDS). The site will be monitored by team of CCIDS faculty and staff with input from several Maine parent groups, the Autism Society of Maine, and other stakeholders. CCIDS is an interdisciplinary research unit of the University of Maine and Maine’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. It is a member of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities and part of the national network of UCEDDs that receive core funding through the Administration on Developmental Disabilities, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The Maine ASRC is organized into twelve (12) categories to assist you with locating autism spectrum-related resources. With the recent intensified focus on autism spectrum disorders (ASD), there has been an explosion in the variety of online resources. It is easy to be overwhelmed with the number and variety of readily available sites. Therefore, the Maine ASRC focuses on resources that are most consistent with the CCIDS mission and its guiding principles of inclusion, respect for human diversity, access/universal design and social justice. We hope you will find our site easy to navigate whether you are an individual on the spectrum, family member, professional, employer, policymaker, or other interested community member.
The Maine ASRC is still under construction. Since it was initiated with funding provided by the Maine Department of Education, the categories of Early Childhood, Education, and Research & Resources were the first to be developed and are currently active. We will continue to add new information to the Maine ASRC, so please keep checking back with us. Our hope is that this will be a collaborative initiative and that you will send us links to sites that you think we should review for consideration and inclusion in the Maine ASRC.
