AAP Publishes State Fact Sheets on Impact of Opioid Crisis on Children

A key American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advocacy priority is addressing the needs of vulnerable children impacted by the ongoing opioid epidemic. This crisis has significant and multifaceted impacts on child and family health and wellbeing. As families affected by parental substance use around the country face child welfare involvement, the Academy is working to support family-centered treatment-focused approaches. Developed in partnership with Casey Family Programs, these fact sheets are the first to synthesize national and state data related to the opioid crisis, child welfare systems, Medicaid, and child health.
The expandable list includes state-by-state and national fact sheets that examine the intersection of the opioid epidemic, child welfare systems, and child health. These fact sheets also offer policy solutions that can support vulnerable children and families at both the state and federal level.
