2019 Interdisciplinary Disability Studies Celebration of Achievement

Twenty-five University of Maine students were honored on April 30, 2019 during the 2019 Interdisciplinary Disability Studies Celebration of Achievement in Corbett Hall (some student honorees are shown in the above photo). Three students were recognized for completing the 9-credit Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Disability Studies. Twenty-two undergraduates were recognized for completing the 24-credit Minor in Interdisciplinary Disability Studies. Download the list of student honorees here (PDF).

Students completing the Minor represented six academic disciplines: Child Development & Family Relations; Communication Sciences and Disorders; Elementary Education; Psychology; Secondary Education and Social Work.

Dr. Alan Cobo-Lewis, Director of the University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies and Associate Professor of Psychology, delivered the opening welcome. Dr. Stephen Gilson offered welcoming remarks as well. Minor Honorees Olivia Rancourt, Taylor DuPont, Hannah Edgecomb, Katrina Bowden and Alicyn Romprey delivered the student remarks. Stoles were presented by Dr. Gilson and Dr. Elizabeth DePoy.

Several student productions of inclusive advertisements (from DIS 450 and DIS 520) were also screened during the celebration.

Honorees were provided with a list of resources and encouraged to stay connected with CCIDS and the thousands of other trainees in the Association of University Centers on Disabilities network.
