Supported Decision-Making: An Alternative to Guardianship

CCIDS is one of thirteen partners in Maine’s Supported Decision-Making Coalition led by Disability Rights Maine. The Coalition website recently added a few new reflections from the community on supported decision-making and is featuring a new resource from the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN), “The Right to Make Choices: International Laws and Decision-Making by People with Disabilities (PDF).”

Coalition partners support the expanded use of Supported Decision-Making by older adults and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and the reform of policy and practice to make Supported Decision-Making a universally accepted alternative to guardianship. If you have questions about supported decision-making or Maine’s Supported Decision-Making Coalition, please contact Disability Rights Maine at 1.800.451.1948 (v/tty) or visit SupportMyDecision.org.
