About:
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Maine this past May. During my undergraduate career I held various leadership positions within several organizations, I was the vice president for the local chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association
(NSSLHA), site leader and site leader representative for Alternative Breaks, philanthropy chair for Delta Zeta, alumni relations chair for the Sophomore Eagles, and the public relations and alumni chair for the All Maine Women. I also had an opportunity to participate in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Minority Student Leadership Program (MSLP). Through these leadership roles, I have learned who I want to be as a community member. I have approached these leadership roles as a learning experience that continues to shape my experience with leading. This year I will be a Master’s student in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Maine. I will use this degree to become a speech-language pathologist. During the program I will be Dr. Nancy Hall’s research assist and have the opportunity to conduct research and help teach two courses. Additionally, I will be serving as the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Vice President of Student State Officers (SLP). NSSLHA is a nationwide student-led program within ASHA. I will receive mentorship from ASHA leaders and work with other dedicated NSSLHA leaders. This will enable me to learn new leadership skills at the national level within this organization. I hope to continue lifelong commitment and leadership to this professional organization.
