Reply to question: How have the IDS courses shaped your perspective of disability?

I think that the IDS courses that I have taken have really opened my eyes to what other people deal with, In a world that’s made for able bodies people, we don’t really take a step back and identify the possible issues that other people run into, either physically or mentally. I took the course originally because I thought it could be an interesting way to educate myself on the types of people I could interact with as patients and ways that I can help them better and try and understand their way of life. Even though I have been on my own journey with mental health, these classes have challenged me to embrace the changes that need to come in our society and that a person no matter how different shouldn’t be seen as “taboo”. I have fallen in love with the subject and hope to bring my knowledge that I have gained with me into my medical career moving forward. I would also love to thank Stephen and Liz for really embracing the way I think and really pushing me to think creatively and in a different light.
