Discipline: Social Work

About:

I am a new graduate student in the University of Maine, School of Social Work. I live in Bangor with my 8 year old daughter on a farm where we have chickens, cats, dogs and honey bees. I am a lifelong Mainer with deep family roots in the state. I’ve returned to school after a hiatus and time in the work force. I am a licensed attorney and hold a Master’s Degree in English literature. I have a personal interest in literature, art and design. I served in the Maine Legislature from 1992-2000 and served on the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs. I am proud of the advocacy work that I was able to do there on behalf of services and programs that support Maine people and their families. My top priority is to support funding for public schools and universities in Maine. I was a caregiver for my grandfather, a beloved patriarch in my family who died in 2010 due to the ravages of Parkinson’s disease. This experience affected me deeply and informs my sense of compassion and empathy for those who struggle with health challenges.
