Reply to question: How have the IDS courses shaped your perspective of disability?
DIS courses have given me the opportunity to think critically about how disability labels can be stigmatizing and create false stereotypes that lead humans to think students who are disabled are not as capable as their peers. In order to create an inclusive environment where all students and people are respected, it is important to use language that prioritizes the person over his or her disability. I have a better appreciation and understanding of people with disabilities and all that disabilities stand for.
